Beats per minute (BPM) is a unit typically used as either a measure of tempo in music, or a measure of one's heart rate. A rate of 60 bpm means that one beat will occur every second. When resting the average adult human heart beats at around 70 BPM, (males), and 75 BPM (females); however this rate varies among people and can be significantly lower in athletes.
Workout music is generally split into the following categories by BPM: Easy excercise/low impact 125BPM - 135 BPM
Tough excercise/high impact 135 PBM - 165 BPM
